One of the great parts of vacationing in a wine region, like the Anderson Valley wineries, is spending the time visiting the different wineries in the area. Whether you're planning a quick weekend getaway or a longer vacation, touring wineries and attending tastings is sure to be one of the highlights of your trip. If you have never visited wineries before, use the following tips to make the most of it:

Arrange Transportation

Many people choose to spend their days in wine country visiting a variety of different wineries in the region, and most wineries offer tastings of their different varietals. Even though the samples of each wine are not overly large, they add up over the course of the day, so your best option is to either have a designated driver or hire a transportation company to drive you from winery to winery and then back to your accommodations, This ensures that you can enjoy tasting as many wines as you wish without worrying about drinking and driving.

Don't Forget About the Smaller Places

In many wine regions, there are a variety of wineries ranging from very large to small and intimate. When deciding on which wineries to visit, do forget about some of the smaller wineries that offer tours that may be off the beaten path and not as well known. Visiting wineries of different sizes creates a well-rounded trip that gives you a better insight to a wine producing region.

Be Willing to Try New Things

Many people have their favorite type of wine and may not usually try other types when at home. Visiting wineries in a wine region and taking advantage of tastings is the perfect opportunity to be adventurous and experience other types of wines that you may never have had before. Being willing to move out of your comfort zone and try new things could even lead to discovering a delicious new wine that you can enjoy in the future.

Don't Leave Your Wine in a Hot Vehicle

It is very common for people to purchase bottles of wine when visiting a winery to enjoy when they return home. If you plan on purchasing wine at the wineries that you visit, make sure you have a plan for storing it during the day. The last thing you want is to leave it in a hot truck or inside a hot car, as the heat will effect the taste of the wine. Having a cooler on hand is one option, or you can also ask the winery to ship the bottles that you purchase to your home.
